The Joe and Rika Mansueto Libraryis scheduled to open in Fall 2010. Until then, there is a need for interim storage space, a need triggered by the Law School Tower renovation with a reduction of space allocated for D'Angelo Law shelving and the necessity to create space in Regenstein Library for the growing print collections. Interim storage space with a good preservation environment has been secured through University Central Procurement and approved by the Office of Risk Management, Audit and Safety. Transfer of materials from D'Angelo Law Library began June 12, 2006. Transfers from Regenstein began in late summer 2006.
Because the collections in interim storage are unavailable to users until they are moved into the Joe and Rika Mansueto Library, it was essential to choose them with great care. They comprised material whose temporary physical absence from campus was least disruptive to research and teaching. Serial titles with full electronic equivalents and titles for which specific interlibrary loan agreements are in place or could be easily identified were chosen for transfer.
A Library/Faculty Shelving Advisory Committee was named by the Provost to guide the Library's decisions regarding collections appropriate for the Joe and Rika Mansueto Library, including those being identified for interim storage. Faculty members on the Advisory Group are Michael Geyer, David Martinez, Christina von Nolcken, and Mark Webster. The Library is committed to ensuring that research needs will be met while materials are in interim storage.
The Library/Faculty Shelving Advisory Committee has approved selection criteria for choosing material to go into interim storage. The criteria are available in the May 2006 Selection Criteria for Interim Storage document.
In addition, more detailed information about the D'Angelo Law Library's selection criteria is available in the May 2006 Report to the Shelving Advisory Group: D'Angelo Law Library Storage Collections.
