Construction plans for the northeast corner of 57th Street and Ellis Avenue, the future site of the Joe and Rika Mansueto Library, are provided below. We apologize to patrons of the Joseph Regenstein Library and residents and users of neighboring buildings for the noise and inconveniences that will sometimes be an unavoidable result of the construction process.  Please check this page for the latest information about ongoing construction work.

Hours:  Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Anticipated noise level:  Moderate

Library users and staff in the Special Collections Research Center as well as staff in Preservation and in Technical and Electronic Services can expect to hear moderate noise in their areas.  Construction noise is not expected to reach other areas in Regenstein.

Project

Underground plumbing and under slab electrical work continue in both the basement level and the mezzanine level. A mud mat will be put in place in the basement early this month prior to the pouring of the floor slab. The installation of the steel beams that will eventually support the main floor begin later in the month.

Sidewalks and Paths

The Ellis Avenue sidewalk from the Henry Moore monument "Nuclear Energy" to 57th Street will remain closed until the completion of the Mansueto Library. Similarly, the north side of the 57th Street sidewalk from Ellis Avenue to the Regenstein Hull Court crosswalk is closed until the completion of the Mansueto Library.

Roads

Ellis Avenue and 57th Streets will be open to traffic throughout the construction period. Parking on Ellis Avenue has been blocked off on both sides of the street between the Henry Moore monument and 57th Street, and on both sides of 57th Street to the east of Ellis Avenue, approximately halfway down the block. Concrete barricades have been placed down the middle of these streets, and the project will use one side for truck traffic. The opposite side of these barricaded streets will be open to two-way traffic.

Bus Stop

The bus stop at the northwest corner of 57th and Ellis has been relocated across the street to the southwest corner of 57th and Ellis.
