Committee recommendation brought to University's Capital Projects Committee for its approval

February 2006

Board of Trustees approved Helmut Jahn of Murphy/Jahn as the architect for the building



March 2006 to April 2007

Programmatic review and schematic design

May 31, 2007

Board of Trustees' review and approval

June 2007 to Spring 2008

Design development, cost estimates, drafting of construction documents

May 2008

Board of Trustees' design and funding approval



Autumn 2008 to Spring 2009:  Slurry Wall Construction

The site is prepared and the slurry wall and ring beam are constructed.

Summer 2009:  Excavation

The basement that will house the automated storage and retrieval system and the mezzanine level mechanical room are dug.

Autumn 2009:  Floor Construction

The basement and ground floors are put in.

Winter 2010 to Autumn 2010:  Bridge, Connections and Interior Work in Regenstein

The bridge from Mansueto to Regenstein is built, the pathway through Regenstein to the bridge is constructed, and the interior work in Regenstein is finished.

Winter 2010 to Autumn 2010:  Dome Construction

The dome is constructed.

Summer 2010 to Winter 2011:   Automated Storage and Retrieval System

The automated storage and retrieval system is assembled on the basement level.

Winter to Spring 2011:  Completion of Mansueto Construction and Loading of Materials

Finishing work is done.  Faculty, students, staff, and visiting scholars begin using the new Library in May 2011.

Summer 2011:  Book Loading

Materials from campus libraries are loaded into the automated storage and retrieval system.

October 2011:  Dedication

The Joe and Rika Mansueto Library is dedicated on October 11, 2012.
